PHS Thirst Project Update

PHS Thirst Project Update

ThirstProjectPThis school year, Parsippany High School is partnering with an organization called the Thirst Project for the purpose of raising $12,000 to fund one fresh water drinking well in Swaziland, Africa. Thirst Project focuses on Swaziland because it has the highest HIV/AIDS density population as well as the highest mortality rate caused by water-related diseases. This well will provide an entire village fresh drinking water for life, which will significantly decrease disease rates as well as allow children to attend school and mothers to work jobs instead of carrying 5 gallon water jugs back and forth from water sources that are over 3 miles away from where they live. The Thirst Project is the largest youth water activism organization, made up of over 300,000 middle school, high school, and college students raising funds and spreading awareness of the 663 million people around the globe who do not have access to fresh clean drinking water.

So far, we have had two representatives from the Thirst Project speak to PHS students on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, about the global water crisis where we participated in a 60-second fundraiser raising over $200! Since then we have held several fundraisers including a Chipotle night, canning outside the local Walgreens and QuickChek, a school-wide 60-second challenge at the Winter Pep Rally where we raised over $200 from the entire student body, as well as canning during all lunch periods the week before the Winter Break. All throughout the month of December, students from around the school joined the PHS online donation page ( where we were able to raise $2,213 to date. With all these funds in addition to some generous cash donations, we have raised over $3,000 out of the $12,000! Over Winter Break, we were even featured on the Thirst Project's official Instagram!

Please check out our donation page to see how you can help PHS achieve our goal of raising $12,000 so that we can provide a community in Swaziland with clean drinking water for life!

Feel free to contact PHS Senior Stephanie Shen (Thirst Project Team Leader) or Mr. Dalakian (Advisor) with any questions. Thank you for your support!
