Television Production 1 & 2
Mr. Nicholes
TV Production 1 is an introductory course that explores all aspects of Production &
Broadcasting including learning about job specific roles in the industry. (Camera Operators,
Editors, Directors, Producing, Scriptwriting, On Screen Anchors). Students will learn and
identify all parts of the camera, learning how to capture, upload and edit footage using Final Cut
Pro X. Students work in small groups and assignments are project-based.
We produce PHS’ very own News Show entitled “The Redhawk Report”, which at this time is
shot twice a month and streamed on the district website. Our goal is to make our show weekly,
and eventually daily. We are covering student-focused academic events as well as many co-
curricular activities. We also assist the “Video On The Go” department with editing, and post-
production requests for many PHS extra-curricular events and athletic contests.
We are always looking for students who are interested in filming our events!
Apart from the News Show, students will be responsible for creating and producing projects
jointly with their classmates as outlined in the district curriculum for Television Production. We
have 6 JVC High Definition cameras that we use and beginning with the 2016-17 school year
we also have 13 brand new iMac Desktop computers in our studio with Final Cut Pro X for all
editing and post-production.
TV Production 2 is an advanced course that students who successfully pass TV 1 can take.
Aside from the curriculum, students in TV 2 help produce, write, and direct PHS events such as
the “Pink Out” held in October and “The Glammys”, PHS’ senior student superlative awards
show which is held in January, and “Redstock” held in May. TV2 students also will work closely
with the Video On The Go Department in coordinating the scheduling for filming and editing of
all PHS extra-curricular events.
TV1 and TV2 students will also have the opportunity to assist in the live broadcast production of
Central/Brooklawn Middle School Graduations in June as well as the PHS/PHHS Graduations.
