Meet the World Language Department

   

Lead Teacher

Señora Damaris Delgado is a Spanish teacher at PHS, where she serves as advisor of the Spanish Club and as lead teacher for the department. She has been a member of the Parsippany High School community for seventeen years. Sra. Delgado is originally from Puerto Rico. She graduated from Montclair State University with a B.A. in Spanish Education and a concentration in Translation. Sra. Delgado enjoys spending time with her family in NJ and in Puerto Rico, traveling, cooking and seeing her students enjoy learning a second language. She is happily married with three children; Raquel, Jacob, Noah, and a lovely beagle, Belle.

 

Mr. Jay Duhl is in his 18th year at PHS, where he teaches Spanish and serves as advisor to the Spanish Honor Society. Mr. Duhl previously had careers in public relations and the restaurant industry. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and holds a Masters of Arts degree in Spanish from Middlebury College. Mr. Duhl is also president of the New Jersey chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. He is the organizer of the student exchange program between PHS and Palencia, Spain, an ACTFL certified Oral Proficiency Interviewer (OPI), a grader of the STAMP test, and a reader/trainer of the AP Spanish Exams for the College Board as well as an AP Consultant for the College Board. Mr. Duhl is the co-author of the textbook “AP Test Prep: Mastering the Spanish Language Exam”. He enjoys long distance running, cooking and hiking.



 

 

Señora Rosebella Lopes is in her tenth year at PHS, where she teaches Spanish and serves as an advisor of the Spanish Club. She is a graduate from Montclair State University with a B.A. in Spanish and a minor in Italian. She is a member of the New Jersey chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. She enjoys traveling, reading, listening to music and spending time with her family and friends. She is a delightful person and very pleased to be working for PHS.

 

 

 

Carolina Sylvin is in her eleventh year at PHS, where she teaches Spanish and coaches cheerleading.  She graduated from West Virginia University and enjoys watching Mountaineer football.  Some of her hobbies include snowboarding, running, and traveling.

Monsieur Mickey Cassu is in his eighth year at PHS and his twentieth second year in education. He is teaching French and is advisor to the French Club and the French Honor Society. He also leads a French exchange to Rambouillet, France. He has a B.A. in French Education from the University of Delaware, an M.A. in French from Middlebury College and an M.A. in School Administration from Kean University. He has taught languages at all levels with recent college experience at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Middlebury College. He is married with two children, Sebastien and Alexandra. He enjoys traveling, spending time with his family and competing in the sport of Triathlon, in 2013 he competed in the Ironman Triathlon in Louisville, KY.

 

MCassu

 

Angela Minichiello was born and raised in Italy. She moved to the USA nine years ago. She is dual certified in Spanish and Italian. She holds a Master in Languages and Foreign literatures from the University of Salerno (Italy) and a second Master in Bilingual Education from the University of Salamanca (Spain).  She is a member of the ITANJ and AATI and serves as advisor of the Italian Club and Italian Honors Society. This is her eighth year in the Parsippany district. She enjoys spending time with her fiancé, José and her family and friends in Italy and here in NJ, traveling, listening to music and soccer.

 

Marta DeCandia  A native Italian speaker, Marta has lived in Italy for six years and has a solid background in both Italian language and culture.  She received her Italian Teacher Certification at Montclair State University and graduated with Magna Cum Laude Honors.  This is her forth year in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District.  She brings a lot of passion into her classroom.  She enjoys listening to music and traveling, especially to Italy, to spend time with family and friends.

Marta DeCandia

Miss Shelley Liu is in her fourth year at Parsippany-Troy Hills School District and her eighth year in education. She used to be a French teacher, but is now a full-time ESL teacher.  She is co-advisor of the French Club/French Honor Society. 
She received her BA in French and Political Science from Rutgers University, and her Masters in Education from Montclair State University and also holds a certificate in ESL. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, photography, and eating.
 She enjoys playing her viola, especially when she gets to perform with the students at PHS. She also enjoys cheering on her various sports teams (especially Liverpool FC and the Yankees), and spending time with her family and dog Lola.

 

Miss Carla Catanzaro is an Italian teacher at PHS. She grew up in Parsippany and has been exposed to the Italian language and culture her entire life. Since she was young she would travel frequently to Italy to visit relatives. A couple years after graduating from high school Miss Catanzaro moved to Roma for a year where she explored the famous city and much of Italy and Europe as well. She made time to teach English to Italian children and give tours of Rome & other cities to family and friends that visited each month. After being back in America for few years she then moved to Florence for six months where she studied Italian at Florence University of the Arts. When she came back she graduated Cum Laude from Montclair State University with a BA in Italian. Miss Catanzaro enjoys traveling and outdoor activities like horseback riding and riding her motorcycles.

 

Madame Donna Lee Donelan has been teaching French in the PTHSD for two years, teaching at Central and Brooklawn last year. She previously taught in Mountain Lakes, Harding Township, and The Morris School District. She is enjoying her wonderful French 2 students at PHS this year. She holds a BA in French/Political Science from Drew University and an MA in Education/Special Education from The College of St. Elizabeth. She spent two semesters studying in Paris during her undergraduate work, and worked in Paris for several months after graduating college. Before working as an educator, she worked for an international exporting firm in Manhattan for several years. When she is not at school, Madame Donelan can often be found in the theatre, either as a director, a performer, a choreographer, or a patron of The Arts. She shares this passion with her husband and daughter.
