Parsippany High School, through the World LanguageDepartment, hosts a biannual exchange program with IES "Jorge Manrique"of Palencia, Spain. During approximately 16 days, the Spanish teenagersexperience classes, family living and American culture. Besidesfollowing their host students to class, they typically spend three fulldays in New York City and three in Washington, D.C. They are alsoofficially welcomed to Parsippany by the mayor, in keeping with theexisting “sister city” relationship previously proclaimed betweenParsippany and Palencia. It all ends in a tearful farewell as the bustakes them off to Newark Airport for their return home to Spain later inOctober. The separation does not last long, though, as many of thesefriends are reunited in Palencia the following spring.
The next scheduled exchange visit is forOctober 2016, and PHS families interested in participating by hosting astudent can contact Jay Duhl, the exchange coordinator.
